Cancer Sucks

You just never think it will happen to someone so close to you. Yes, my husband went through having bladder cancer and the treatments and I was so worried that he would not come through it all okay, but we were so fortunate that he did. So, I kind of figured that I had had my encounter of the "close family kind" with him. But, a couple of weeks ago, one of the GG's (genuine girlfriends - there's 5 of us) has ovarian cancer. She ended up in Scarborough with one of the best doctors who did an emergency hysterectomy and took her ovaries too. The dr was not able to get all the cancer, so on Wednesday she has her first chemo treatment. Us GG's went shopping today, out to lunch and then to the movies to see "The Book Club." What a great day we had! She looks so good right now, lost a bunch of weight, but her face has color and she was so happy that we did this. Her friends from the town where she lives now - "The Purse Sisters", will be taking her to Freeport for shopping tomorrow then on to Scarborough to spend the night at a hotel and to be with her for her first day of chemo on Wednesday. I just kept thinking all day today about how she will be feeling, how sick she might be, how soon her hair will fall out (cause her dr told her she will lose it), and on and on. I mean, this is my best friend from 2nd grade on. We had kids that are almost the same age. Even though we didn't always live close to each other, we kept in touch and never lost the sisterly love that we share. My heart breaks for her. Watching her walk into her house this afternoon after the movie, I just thought, "will I ever watch her walk in like this again." What a horrible thought! I think she is holding a lot inside. She didn't turn around and wave to us and just looked so forlorn to me, and to the other girls as well, I believe. She will have to go down every 3 weeks for a 5-6 hour treatment. The dr has already called in her anti-nausea pills and she has picked them up from the pharmacy. I am just feeling so sick about it. I will be saying plenty of prayers for her.

It's been a busy week. Friends have been up from Florida and Dennis has been working on their camp getting it ready to move into in September. Nice to see them. His wife had to return today but he will be staying with us for a month or so. He's like a brother to me.
Den and I always enjoy his company.

Looks like a good weather week ahead, so glad to finally have some nice warm weather. Although, we do have the heat on this evening. A 'leetle' chilly here tonight!

My positive thought for today is: It's okay to express your opinion because it belongs to you and no one can ever take it away from you. Smile away... ;)
